Most of the certificates take a year or lesser for completion, while associate degree programs usually take two years or completion. 
• Finish on-the-job training - Most of the programs offered by medical schools and colleges allow students to acquire clinical experience during their schooling. Depending on the law of the state, students may also choose to obtain on-the-job training without enrolling in a postsecondary education program. You can also choose an approved pharmacy or medical center to complete on-the-job training.
• Get certified - Some states require a certified pharmacy technician. Even in states where certifications are not needed, most of the employers prefer to hire a pharmacy technician who is certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or the National Healthcareer Association.
• Become specialized - Some of the pharmacy technicians choose to work solely for a retail drugstore chain and will complete specialized training to work as a community pharmacy technician, general pharmacy technician, or central pharmacy operations technician.
